The charge state fractions F-q of Fe-q+ ions for q between 1 and 6 for
med in one-electron capture in single H+-Fe collisions and in both one
and two-electron capture in single He2+-Fe collisions have been studi
ed at energies within the range 37.5-500 keV amu(-1). Measured fractio
ns in H+-Fe collisions have been satisfactorily described in terms of
an independent electron model. The Fe-q+ fractions arising from He2+-F
e collisions have been considered in terms of both electron capture si
multaneous with ionization through binary collisions and through Auger
decays.
