Mv. Russo et al., DETERMINATION BY CAPILLARY GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHY OF PYROMELLITIC ACID THROUGH CONVERSION TO TETRAETHYLTRIFLUORO AND TETRAMETHYLESTERS, Analusis, 23(3), 1995, pp. 128-130
An analytical procedure for the determination of pyromellitic acid is
described, consisting in its conversion to tetraethyltrifluoroester by
means of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol. The chromatographic behaviour of the
resulting ester, pyromellitic tetra(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)ester, has b
een characterized by GC-MS. The determination is carried out by capill
ary GC and an electron capture detector. The procedure has been develo
ped in order to determine traces of pyromellitic acid, which might be
used in the manufacturing of polyethylenterephthalate plastics (PET) a
nd to evaluate the migration of this compound in bottles filled either
with water or acetic acid solution.
