The elemental composition, IR spectrum and thermal decomposition of th
e precipitate obtained during interaction of a Ce(NO3)(3)-acetone solu
tion and a partially neutralized mixture of bis- and mono-(2-ethylhexy
l) phosphoric acid are studied. It is established that the precipitate
represents CeA(3)NO(3), whereas under the same experimental condition
s Pr, Nd and Er form LnA, complexes (A=/CH3(CH2)(3)CH(CH2CH3)CH2O2/POO
-). The NO3 group is released when the sample is heated to 458 K, and
CeA(3) is formed as an intermediate. The subsequent thermal decomposit
ion proceeds without melting to Ce(PO3)(3).
