Abstract
The problem of interaction of a smooth nonlinear two-dimensional wave held and a large-amplitude quasi-plane solitary wave is considered in the framework of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation by means of the a symptotic multiscale technique. It is shown that their interaction res ults in an essential transformation of a nonlinear wave field includin g the birth, death and translation of soliton components of the field spectrum.
