Abstract
Segmental Renal Hypoplasia (SRH) is an uncommon cause of hypertension sometimes severe in young people mostly in females. This study was don e to determine the evolution of blood pressure and renal function in 1 4 patients with uni-or bilateral Ask-Upmark kidney in relationship wit h the control of blood pressure by unilateral nephrectomy (Group 1) or pharmacological treatment (Group 2). The blood pressure was normalize d in 5 patients with unilateral disease by nephrectomy. In this group, renal function was improved during the follow up. In the other 5 pati ents treated by antihypertensive drugs the renal function feel in cons onance with inadequate control of hypertension. Similar results was ob tained in 4 patients with bilateral renal damage. In conclusion, patie nts with unilateral segmental renal hypoplasia treated with nephrectom y achieve excellent control of hypertension and renal function.
