From September 1989 to december 1992, 8 patients with prolonged acute
renal failure have been studied. Hypoxemia, either with or without dis
tress, remarkable sustained hypotension and aminoglycosides administra
tion, were the associated conditions usually seen in these patients. C
AVH, CAVHD and/or HD were employed as soon as oliguria or high creatin
ine value were detected. All patients survived. Renal function complet
ely recovered in six patients; the remaining two recovered function pa
rtially.
