F. Ouellette et al., ALL-FIBER DEVICES FOR CHROMATIC DISPERSION COMPENSATION BASED ON CHIRPED DISTRIBUTED RESONANT COUPLING, Journal of lightwave technology, 12(10), 1994, pp. 1728-1738
We review the principle of operation and characteristics of all-fiber
devices for dispersion compensation based on chirped distributed reson
ant coupling. These devices are the chirped Bragg grating, the chirped
intermodal coupler, and the tapered two-dissimilar-core fiber. We dis
cuss the use of a figure of merit to characterize equalizing filters.
Based on a specific example, filter responses are computed and their p
erformance is evaluated with a numerical simulation of an optical fibe
r link. Finally, design constraints are discussed.
