K. Kyokane et al., SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF PRIMARY SCLEROSING CHOLANGITIS WITH CYCLOSPORINE AND CORTICOSTEROID, Hepato-gastroenterology, 41(5), 1994, pp. 449-452
A case of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) successfully treated wi
th cyclosporine is described. A 65-year-old man who presented with jau
ndice and anemia was diagnosed as having PSC, accompanied by pancreati
c duct abnormalities. Cholangiography and pancreatography showed marke
d improvements following combined therapy with cyclosporine and methyl
prednisolone. Cyclosporine seems to be a promising drug for the treatm
ent of patients with PSC. This report reasons that the same disease pr
ocess affects both the pancreatic ducts and the bile ducts, and that s
tagnation of pancreatic juice may have a role to play in the pancreati
c duct abnormalities.
