K. Chabita et al., EFFECTS OF COPPER(II) IONS ON THE SO4-CENTER-DOT RADICAL-INDUCED OXIDATION OF CYTOSINE AND ITS DERIVATIVES, Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 67(10), 1994, pp. 2751-2757
The reactions of SO4-. radicals with cytosine and its derivatives have
been studied in dilute aqueous solutions. The results show that the n
ature of the group attached to N-1 of the base greatly influences the
reaction sequences. Presence of copper(II) ions greatly affects the re
action pathways, where it is observed that the substrate consumption i
ncreases drastically indicating initiation of some chain reactions. Re
lease of unaltered base from cytidine and deoxycytidine also increases
under these conditions.
