Poly(methylphenylsilane) has been synthesized through homogeneous redu
ctive dechlorination of dichloromethylphenylsilane using sodium/electr
on-acceptor complexes in tetrahydrofuran solution at -79-degrees-C. Th
e optimization of product molecular weights is considered through anal
ogy to a step-growth polymerization.
