Abstract
A methanol extract of Cladanthus arabicus (L.) Cass. gave, besides the already known compounds (Cladantholide) and Sintenin, two new sesquit erpenes 1beta, 4beta-dihydroxy-5alphaH, 6betaH, 7alphaH,1 1alphaH-guai -2,3-en-6,12-olide (Cladantholide B) and 3-beta-acetoxy-6Hbeta, 7alpha H, 11alphaH-germacra-1(10), 4(5)-diene-6,12-olide (11alpha,13-dihydro- novanin). Structures of these compounds were substantiated by high fie ld H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy. Besides the sesquiterpenes a coumari n - scopoletin and a flavonoid artemetin were also isolated.
