ANIMAL-WELFARE IN CATTLE KEEPING - DEVELO PMENT AND PERSPECTIVE

This report describes the situation of animal welfare in farmer cattle keeping systems in Germany. In future loose housing systems will comp ensate the traditional tie stall systems. The situation of animal welf are in available keeping systems is mentioned. Missings according to t he correct dimensions inside the buildings are found. Also in extensiv e keeping systems there is a lack of animal welfare, if the keeper doe s not understand the essential demands of his cattle. Technical equipm ents can help organizing the work in cattle houses. Some examples are given. Animal welfare in cattle keeping can be achieved, if all people , who are involved in cattle keeping, are working together. This repor t is a supplement to the papers of this working group in 1990 and 1992 .
