Abstract
Numerous concerns must be addressed before transgenic potatoes can be commercialized and grown in production agriculture. Among the most pro minent is escape and proliferation of transgenic cultivated potatoes a nd the introgression of transgenes into native wild species with subse quent potential for ecological disruption. Using available literature, a risk assessment was made of transgene escape and subsequent introgr ession into wild species growing within the geographical borders of th e United States and Canada.
