A patient with chronic idiopathic pure red cell hypoplasia responded t
o intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. No other treatment was administe
red. During treatment, the patient was taken through two pregnancies w
ithout haematological problems. After 22 months of therapy, the intrav
enous immunoglobulin was discontinued; a durable remission was subsequ
ently maintained. Intravenous immunoglobulin may be the treatment of c
hoice for females of child-bearing potential.
