Abstract
Some aspects of micro- and surface-analytical beam techniques for stud ies of individual airborne particulates are reviewed. Applications of the microanalysis techniques of electron spectroscopic imaging, second ary ion imaging and proton induced x-ray-micro analysis (micro-PIXE) f or the characterization of individual particles in environmental sampl es and chemically modified asbestos fibres are discussed.
