Sw. North et al., CN RADICAL REACTION-RATE MEASUREMENTS BY TIME-RESOLVED FM SPECTROSCOPY, International journal of chemical kinetics, 29(2), 1997, pp. 127-129
Time-resolved frequency-modulation spectroscopy is shown to be an effe
ctive method for measuring the rates of gas-phase reactions. As an exa
mple, the rate constant for the reaction of CN with C2H4 at 298 K is m
easured to be 2.5 +/- 0.2 X 10(-10) cm(3)s(-1), in good agreement with
other literature values. The efficiency and sensitivity of this techn
ique will be of interest to the chemical kineticist. (C) 1997 John Wil
