A patient underwent a subtotal resection of the tracheobronchial carin
a for an obstructing endobronchial lesion. Preoperative biopsies of th
e lesion were not diagnostic. After resection, the histological examin
ation of the specimen removed demonstrated an extramedullary plasmacyt
oma infiltrating the bronchial wall. Immunohistochemical studies showe
d monoclonality for kappa light chains. The postoperative course was u
neventful and the screening for multiple myeloma was negative. No adju
vant treatment was given and the patient is currently alive and free o
f disease 63 months after the resection. Primary endobronchial plasmac
ytoma is a very rare disease; it is unclear which is the best treatmen
t for endobronchial plasmacytoma. However, complete surgical resection
has allowed a long-term survival, free of disease. Copyright (C) 1996
