BOARD MILL CONVERSION TO ALKALINE PROCESS

The paperboard division of Kruger Inc. has converted its operating che mistry from an acid to an alkaline medium. The approach to this conver sion is discussed from a practical point of view, as experienced in th e mill. The various reasons that motivated this major change, the conv ersion phases, as well as the follow-up and evaluation are discussed. The importance of chemical additives in the manufacturing of sized boa rd is directly proportional to the quality of the finished product.
