Jp. Holland et al., SUBGALEAL HEMATOMA RESULTING IN EXTRADURAL COMPRESSION FOLLOWING CRANIOTOMY - REPORT OF 2 CASES, British journal of neurosurgery, 8(5), 1994, pp. 603-605
We describe two patients who underwent intracranial aneurysm surgery a
nd developed postoperative subgaleal haematomas which, in the presence
of an unfixed bone flap, resulted in significant extradural compressi
on and a marked clinical deterioration. The application of a pressure
dressing to tamponade a developing scalp haematoma is unwise unless th
e bone flap has been rigidly fixed in place.
