CAPACITY IMPROVEMENT WITH BASE-STATION ANTENNA-ARRAYS IN CELLULAR CDMA

In this paper, the use of antenna array at base-station for cellular C DMA is studied. We present a performance analysis for a multicell CDMA network with an antenna array at the base-station for use in both bas e-station to mobile (downlink) and mobile to base-station (uplink) lin ks. We model the effects of path loss, Rayleigh fading, log-normal sha dowing, multiple access interference, and thermal noise, and show that by using an antenna array at the base-station, both in receive and tr ansmit, we can increase system capacity several fold. Simulation resul ts are presented to support our claims.
