P. Kreis et al., CHIRAL COMPOUNDS OF ESSENTIAL OILS .18. ON THE AUTHENTICITY ASSESSMENT OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF ROSMARINUS-OFFICINALIS L, Die Pharmazie, 49(10), 1994, pp. 761-765
Enantioselective multidimensional GC using the column combination of a
polyethylene glycol pre column and a chiral main column, coated with
modified beta-cyclodextrins, allows the simultaneous stereodifferentia
tion of important chiral compounds of the essential oil of Rosmarinus
officinalis L. The enantiomeric ratios of alpha-pinene, camphene, beta
-pinene, limonene, borneol, terpinen-4-ol, alpha-terpineol, (linalylac
etate), linalol and camphor are investigated in authentic rosemary oil
s and in commercially available oil samples of different origin. (1s-(
-)-Borneol of high enantiomeric purity (ep >90%) has been detected as
a reliable indicator of genuine rosemary oils. The addition of borneol
as a synthetic racemate or as an alien essential oil (fraction) is co
nclusively detected.
