A laboratory multi-oscillator ring laser of monoblock construction emp
loying a non-planar cavity and the Zeeman effect on the helium-neon di
scharge is used to bias oppositely travelling modes from lock-in. A th
eoretical model of the laser is used to explain the behaviour with res
pect to gain, tuning and magnetic field. Methods for stabilizing the g
yro operating point and correcting for ambient magnetic fields are pre
sented.
