The fluorescence phenomena of nanostructured Al2O3 without doping and
after doping of nano-Fe2O3 (4.61 and 48.01 wt %) were systematically i
nvestigated. The results show that a new fluorescence band with a peak
position of about 17 500 cm(-1) occurs for boehmite, eta-Al2O3 and ga
mma-Al2O3 and it disappears for alpha-Al2O3. This band can be attribut
ed to fluorescence of Fe3+ in the systems with low-order degree (boehm
ite, eta- and gamma-Al2O3 and interfaces), which arises from (6)A(1)--
>T-4(1) d(5) electron transitions of Fe3+.
