Sn. Lo et al., ACTIVATED-SLUDGE TREATMENT OF TMP MILL EFFLUENTS .1. EFFLUENT CHARACTERIZATION AND TREATABILITY STUDY, Tappi journal, 77(11), 1994, pp. 167-178
The authors characterized effluents of two newsprint mills to establis
h the variability and relative contribution of process elements on BOD
5 and toxicity to trout. They investigated the potential application o
f activated sludge treatment for total mill and selected effluents dur
ing 15 month study with F/M ranging from 0.09 to 0.66 for one mill and
from 0.2 to 1.33 for the other. They also examined the effects of hyd
raulic residence time and sludge age on BOD5 reduction and toxicity re
moval.
