L. Subramanian et La. Carlsson, INFLUENCE OF VOIDS ON THE ENGINEERING CONSTANTS OF PAPER .1. CONTINUUM MODELING, Tappi journal, 77(11), 1994, pp. 209-216
The influence of voids on the engineering elastic constants of paper i
s investigated in two parts. Part 1 describes a continuum micromechani
cal model that generates in-plane elastic constants and moisture-expan
sion coefficients of void-free papers composed of chemical pulp fibers
. Predictions from the model are compared with existing experimental d
ata from the literature. The modeling of voids, correction of baseline
properties for voids, and further experimental comparisons are report
ed in the second part of the study.
