A method for evaluating corner cracking vulnerability of continuously
cast ingots of rectangular cross section is presented. It was tested a
t the Belarussian iron and steel works in the production of continuous
ly cast ingots with a cross section measuring 125 x 125 mm. The data o
btained have shown that the method reduces labor expenditures and cons
iderably facilitates the evaluation of corner cracking vulnerability.
The quality of continuously cast ingots is improved because of the bet
ter correction of the pouring parameters according to the results of d
irect measurements of the rhombicity of ingots in the process line of
a continuous-casting machine.
