The application of field-emission microscopy (FEM) and field-ion micro
scopy (FIM) to surface studies related to catalysis (symmetry of atomi
c-like states localized at the surface atoms of transition metals, spi
llover effect, dissipation of energy, etc.) is discussed together with
a new approach to modeling of supported bimetallic catalysts in these
devices.
