Abstract
A theoretical study of the adsorption of polar molecules (protons and hydroxyl groups) on three MgO surfaces is presented. Thanks to an anal ysis of adsorption energies, charge transfers and adsorption geometrie s, we determine the various microscopic parameters which fit the acid- base strength of surface sites of different coordination numbers and w e discuss the results in the context of classical adhesion models.
