The stability of film-forming concentrated emulsifier-free latexes (EF
L) containing functional groups (carboxy-, hydroxy-, epoxy-) has been
studied with the purpose of obtaining films and coatings on their base
with improved properties. The effect of functional comonomer (FC): (m
eth)acrylic acids, (di)methacrylate ethylene glycols, glycidyl methacr
ylate - on the stability is established: its increase - in the case of
hydrophilic FC and decrease - in the case of hydrophobic FC. It indic
a res to the necessity of using smaller concentration of the latter fo
r obtaining stable latexes. The properties of films and coatings based
on these systems characterized by low concentration of FC are investi
gated. The possibility of significant effect of FC on water-resistance
, mechanical and adhesion-properties is shown even at their low concen
tration.
