Abstract
The 'catalytic triad' mechanism, which involves a serine, histidine an d aspartic acid, has become synonymous with serine proteases. However, recently, mechanistically novel serine proteases have been discovered . These proteases use hydroxyl/epsilon-amine or hydroxyl/alpha-amine ' catalytic dyads' as their reactive centers.
