Abstract
Pattern selection in reaction-diffusion systems exhibiting bistability of homogeneous steady states is discussed. In agreement with recent e xperimental results, we obtain new bifurcation diagrams involving larg e-amplitude structures that arise from the coupling of the spatial cri tical modes with a quasi-neutral homogeneous mode.
