Np. Buchholz et al., CLINICAL AND PATHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF HIGHLY MALIGNANT PROSTATIC CARCINOMAS WITH METASTASES TO THE PENIS, Urologia internationalis, 53(3), 1994, pp. 135-138
Since 1885, 73 penile metastases of a primary carcinoma of the prostat
e have been reported. There is no standardized therapy as various ther
apeutic methods have produced variable results. The authors present th
eir experiences with 2 recent cases. In some cases, total penectomy ca
n relieve untolerable pain. Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry fo
r various prognostic factors showed a high malignant potential of carc
inomas of the prostate metastasizing to the penis. Screening for vario
us prognostic factors could favor an initial, more radical surgical ap
proach in some cases, thus avoiding later tumor progression.
