This article describes a National Science Foundation funded program ai
med at assisting high school physics teachers in Southern California t
o incorporate modern physics concepts into the high school curriculum.
Summer and academic year activities in the program are described. Ext
ensive assessment and evaluation of the project indicated success both
in promoting modern physics instruction in the high schools as well a
s an increase in teachers' professional attitudes toward themselves an
d their careers. Statistical analysis of the results of these assessme
nts is briefly discussed.
