F. Gu et al., THE CHARACTERIZATION AND CRYSTALLIZATION OF A VIRALLY ENCODED USTILAGO-MAYDIS KP4 TOXIN, Journal of Molecular Biology, 243(4), 1994, pp. 792-795
KP4 is a virally encoded and highly specific toxin that kills fungi cl
osely related to the fungus Ustilago maydis. The toxin was purified an
d, crystals were formed using ammonium sulfate as precipitant. The cry
stals belong to the space group P6(1(5))22 and diffracted to similar t
o 2.2 Angstrom resolution. Circular dicroism spectroscopy suggests tha
t the protein is predominantly comprised of beta-strands.
