Adhesive wear characteristics of nitrogenated Fe-Cr-Ni and Fe-Cr-Ni-Mn
type cast austenitic stainless steels have been investigated Stainles
s steels in which nickel is partially substituted by manganese and nit
rogen demonstrate better wear resistance and lower friction coefficien
t particularly when the titanium content is also raised simultaneously
. The wear surface undergoes heavy work hardening which retards furthe
r wear, In contrast, molybdenum does not contribute to improved wear r
esistance in cast austenitic stainless steels.
