Electrochemical behavior of niobium in the melt CsCl-KCl-NaCl-NaF (10
wt%)-K2NbF7 is studied on vitreous-carbon electrode by the linear volt
ammetry technique. Investigations at temperatures ranging from 973 to
1073 K show that the cathode process of discharging NbF72- complexes i
ncludes a reversible step of recharging the pentavalent niobium to the
tetravalent state and a subsequent irreversible step of discharging t
he tetravalent niobium to metal. Kinetic parameters of both steps are
determined.
