P. Holsthansen et D. Britz, CAN CURRENT FLUCTUATIONS ACCOUNT FOR THE EXCESS HEAT CLAIMS OF FLEISCHMANN AND PONS, Journal of electroanalytical chemistry [1992], 388(1-2), 1995, pp. 11-16
The galvanostat used by Fleischmann and Pons was found to be at the ed
ge of stability and would certainly have caused current fluctuations a
s a result of cell voltage fluctuations. This has been confirmed theor
etically and by experiment. However, the fluctuations do not affect th
e calculation of the power going into the cell sufficiently to account
for the excess heat claims; in the present work, power errors resulti
ng from this effect were less than 0.001%.
