Abstract
Barium radiology is the investigation of choice in patients who presen
t with dysphagia. The barium column distends the oesophagus and shows
the extent and severity of any narrowing that is present. A barium swa
llow should be performed without delay when a constricting disorder of
the oesophagus is suspected.
