The bulk second harmonic generation (SHG) in the cholesteric liquid cr
ystal has been studied. The electric field E induces SHG in cholesteri
c liquid crystal with small dielectric anisotropy and SHG intensity is
proportional to E(2). This electric field dependence is tentatively i
nterpreted in terms of the increase in polarization density due to fle
xoelectric deformation.
