More than a hundred fragments of alpha-cluster states in S-32 With spi
ns from 3 (h) over bar to 10 (h) over bar have been observed in elasti
c alpha-particle scattering from Si-28. The energy spectra are investi
gated in terms of a nonlinear Lagrangian, associated with the dynamics
of the system, which adds a new collective motion to the well known r
otational and vibrational motions in nuclei. The present model not onl
y reproduces the observed levels but predicts also the positions and s
pins of other levels for both even and odd parities.
