High yield pulps have been prepared in the presence of a sulfonation r
eagent (Na2SO3) both under conventional alkali (CTMP, GRIP pulps) and
steam explosion (SE pulps) conditions. Pulps were evaluated both in te
rms of their chemical and physical properties as of their structure. W
hen compared to conventional CMP and CTMP ones, EE pulps lead to highe
r fiber bonding ability resulting in an improved paper strength.
