Dc. Chamberlain et Dj. Priest, EFFECT OF ANIONS ON REACTIONS PROMOTED BY ALUMINUM SALT-SOLUTIONS ON THERMALLY AGED PAPER, Cellulose Chemistry and Technology, 28(6), 1994, pp. 657-664
Tile effect of different aluminium salt solutions on the wet strength
and degradation of paper after thermal treatment is described. Tensile
measurements indicate that different anions affect the reaction of al
uminium cations in paper, altering the ratel and degree of each reacti
on. Although both reactions under investigation are acid catalysed, th
e effects different anions exhibit can be explained only by reference
to the solution chemistry of aluminium, and not to formal measurements
of acidity.
