ECT ADMINISTRATION TO A HYPERTHYROID PATIENT

There are few reported convincing cases of hyperthyroid depressed pati ents receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). We describe a depresse d 66-year-old woman with catatonic depression diagnosed with new-onset hyperthyroidism due to Grave's disease. After commencing propylthiour acil, her Grave's disease was partially treated, but her depression wa s no better. She subsequently received a course of seven ECT with reso lution of her depression and no adverse sequelae.
