The KHg excimer in the 2 (2) Pi state was produced in the photochemica
l reaction between K-2(C-1 Pi(u)) and Hg(6(1)S(0)). The KHg 2 (2) Pi-1
(2) Sigma(+) transition was observed at about 640 nm. We performed qu
antum mechanical spectral simulations for the KHg 2 (2) Pi-1 (2) Sigma
(+) transition, using potential energy curves calculated by Czuchaj et
al. [Chem. Phys. Lett. 199 (1992) 47]. Absorption of the KHg chemilum
inescence by the overlapping K-2 X-B transition was studied in detail.
Other KHg transitions observed to date in different experiments are d
iscussed.
