This paper reviews the electrical current stimulation of wounds, A his
torical perspective is followed by a brief theoretical section, which
indicates basic avenues in the theory of electric current stimulation
of wounds. The appearance and modifications of physiological electric
currents in wounded tissues are further discussed. A review of differe
nt modalities of electrical stimulation includes direct current stimul
ation, low-frequency pulsed current, and high voltage stimulation. Bas
ic principles of electrode construction and use are followed by a sect
ion related to dosimetry of electrical current stimulation.
