Abstract
Azithromycin and clarithromycin are newer macrolides that expand the s pectrum of erythromycin. They are better tolerated and offer a more co nvenient dosage schedule but at greater cost to the patient. In additi on to offering alternatives to traditional macrolide indications, they also hold promise for the therapy of less common pathogens, particula rly in patients with AIDS.
