C. Barry et Mar. Townsend, TEACHERS JUDGMENTS ABOUT THE TEACHING OF ART IN PRIMARY-SCHOOLS, New Zealand journal of educational studies, 30(1), 1995, pp. 51-63
One hundred primary school teachers from 16 schools completed a questi
onnaire in which they described their classroom organisation of art. T
hey also completed a scale of general attitude towards the teaching of
art in primary school and another scale assessing their attitude towa
rds teaching art in their own classroom. A sample of the teachers was
later interviewed on issues concerning the evaluation of children's ar
t work. Some wide variations were found in classroom practices. Attitu
des towards the teaching of art were relatively positive, and somewhat
more positive among teachers with higher qualifications in art and th
ose who had some school responsibility concerning art education. There
were some reservations expressed about the adequacy of teacher traini
ng in art and about the resources available for art development in sch
ool.
