Abstract
Optical absorption in fused silica components can limit the performanc e of high power optical systems. Measurements of the absorption coeffi cients for several grades of fused silica show widely differing absorp tion values at the test wavelength (514.5 nm), allowing selection of t he type best suited to a particular application. The method employed c an readily be adapted to other wavelengths.
