Abstract
We report experimental observations for the evolution of transverse mo des in a CO2 laser with saturable absorber operating on the q = 1 fami ly. The observations are compared with predictions obtained from a the oretical model based on the 3-2 levels rate equations which includes t he transverse structure of the laser beam.
