As. Furman, PHOTOINDUCED BRAGG GRATING FORMATION IN OPTICAL FIBERS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF CONVECTIVE INSTABILITY, Optics communications, 117(5-6), 1995, pp. 502-506
The photoinduced formation of Bragg gratings in optical fibres is expl
ained as a consequence of convective instability. Close analogy is emp
hasized between this phenomenon and the photoinduced second harmonic g
eneration in optical fibres. The observed grating formation is interpr
eted as amplification of very low frequency noise. Predictions concern
ing the transient processes are made which could be checked experiment
ally.
